Building Homes in Australia

buildahouseIf you intend to build a house in a high bushfire risk area, there are some regulations you will need to follow in order to fulfil the requirements for residential permits. The requirements that proposals need to adhere to are set out by the Government of South Australia. Details of these requirements can be found in the Building Code Australia state variations. Plans are assessed according to the bushfire protection planning provisions of the relevant local area development plan. The County fire service also needs to be referred to in relation to how difficult protecting the structure from bushfire will be.

The History of Storm Water Management

downloadStorm water management’s history started in the 80s when the EPA did a Nationwide Urban run-off Program (NURP) study. This study was to evaluate the extent of the effects of urban run-off on water quality problems, and also to evaluate how to control urban run-off. The recommendation that resulted from the NURP study was that urban run-off should be added to the list of environmental issues that require control in order to protect water quality. Trends in Construction to Watch Out For This Year!

cdo-construction-august-2013As the economy continues to improve, so too will the construction market. To catalyse and sustain this growth, new trends are already emerging within the global construction market. The following trends described in this post will show a glimpse of how the construction market is continuing to evolve and what it will look like throughout 2015 and beyond.

The old idea that engineering design and construction companies were separate entities has been scrapped in favour for a more efficient joint effort. For example, important data for engineering design is often created in-house, then contracted out to an outsourced firm to develop. This method relies on many individual components and companies working together, which is practically a recipe for time mismanagement and miscommunication. Continue reading

Commercial Regulations in France

The present financial year should see approximately 63,105 billion dollars’ worth of civil engineering work completed across Australia according to the Australian Construction Industry Forum, though this figure does not include mining projects. Continue reading

Skyscrapers!

Skyscrapers-Mirror-1024x768In a world where things are constantly pushed to be bigger and better engineers are at the front line of boundary pushing innovation. Add cheaper and faster to the list of expectations and failures are bound to occur. Failure however is not just the mother of innovation, but also of civil engineering enterprise. Where one fails another learns, and engineers are coming up with solutions that provide possibilities for increasingly incredible structures. As new materials are developed designers utilise them to greater performance and in tackling unprecedented challenges, engineers must refine safety margins. They must also consider greater variables and are held accountable for remarkable successes that would not be possible with a more conservative, less intensive design process. Continue reading
